Welcome to our 2015-16 Season! Our theme, Rendezvous with my Friends, bears some explanation. Many patrons often ask, “How do you come up with a season theme?”. It inevitably starts with works and artists we want to present. At the time about half the concerts are booked, a theme reveals itself. In this case, the music and musicians we are presenting pointed to two areas: They were graduates of the two foremost educational institutions on two continents and my close colleagues.
So this season will be an overview of great artists who have gone to conservatory with me, but more importantly, have made an indelible impact on the music world after graduation. Ilya Kaler, a star pupil in the studio of the legendary David Oistrakh, went on to not only win gold medals in three international violin competitions, but has continued to hone his career to a point that he is equally sought after as a soloist, pedagogue and a chamber musician. He has recently come back as a judge of the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, a testament to the respect he enjoys not just from audiences but his fellow musicians.
Violist Michael Klotz belongs to a new generation of artists. A graduate of the Eastman School where his style and interpretation were honed by the creative genius of Zvi Zeitlin, he earned dual degrees at the Juilliard School, as a violinist and violist, one of a handful such graduates of that venerable institution. Currently, a very busy artist with the world famous Amernet String Quartet, he also concertizes all over the world in ad hoc chamber groups. We are fortunate to secure his services for this season, as he loves our audience and playing at the Schulze home.
I encourage you to peruse our website, bluecandlelight.org, for in-depth information on the season programming and artists. This promises to be our most exciting season yet, on the heels of last year’s showing and gaining momentum to 2016-17, our 15th anniversary year. I look forward to seeing you at the concerts and visiting with you after. As always, this is your series. The board and I are committed to making every concert an unforgettable experience for you.
